Communications Specialist

Experis IT Switzerland is currently on the search for aCommunications Specialist to join one of their clients, an NGO, based in Geneva.
Your role:
You are responsible for communications about the Clients mission and activities. As part of an experienced, multi-cultural and versatile team, the specialist deploys a wide range of writing and communications skills, in fluent French and English, including developing messaging and communications products for diverse audiences and channels; engaging with media, implementing partners and donor countries; and providing strategic communications guidance to staff and partners. The Communications Specialist will be based in the Editorial Team, but would work closely with the Marketing and Events, Digital and Internal Communications Teams. Some travel may be required.
Key Responsibilities
The Communications Specialist will, under the supervision of the manager, be responsible for the following:
- Write news releases, stories, blogs and op-eds, talking points, reports, summaries, briefing papers and other communications material on the Client's work and key issues,
- Work with colleagues across departments to communicate complex issues to diverse audiences;
- In coordination with other communications colleagues and other departments, contribute to the production of communications products and initiatives that demonstrate impact, for use across multiple channels such as digital, media and social media;
- Support communications work around the Client and external events and representation opportunities worldwide, including with governments, partners, donors and the media;
- Formulate and coordinate messaging in time-sensitive and high-stakes situations.
- Provide strategic communications guidance, including training and coaching as needed, for staff on communications and media issues;
- Support the implementation of the Client's current strategy through outreach to media, partners and private sector and government donors;
- Handle inquiries and coordinate responses to media about the Client, key issues, and the programs we support.
To deliver the required results, it's essential that you have:
- University degree in journalism, communications, public relations, international development or a related field.
- At least five years' experience in journalism, public relations, or related communications field;
- In-depth understanding of communications operations, principles and practices.
- Experience working in a large, preferably global organization;
- Experience working in a developing country;
- Proven ability to work in a multi-cultural environment;
- In-depth understanding of international relations and development.
- Excellent written and oral French and English is required.
