for a z/OS System Engineer (f/m)

Project environment

In a Swiss Insurance Company you are collaborating within the area of Mainframe Service Operations, the z/OS System Engineer engages within a group of Mainframe technical experts from Mainframe Architecture & Engineering as well as the cross-organized and – skilled teams of Production Delivery to achieve service excellence for our internal customers. The focus is on bridging competencies for z/OS between the stated units and applying the excellent personal knowledge for this Level 3 support role, to strive for rapid issue resolution, a high degree of automation and high customer satisfaction. The z/OS System Engineer will have responsibility and accountability for the operational services being provided as well as sharing thought and knowledge for service improvements. This is your opportunity to work with other skilled professionals in an environment built on current Mainframe
technologies running extreme workloads.

Tasks
• Service accountability and responsibility for z/OS, including cross functional alignment between organizations.
• Contribution to Service Excellence and the required service improvements and innovations to serve our customers with highest quality standards.
• Evaluate new tools and technologies that address existing gaps of the service and strive for increased automation within the service delivery.
• Close collaboration with the internal customers, Service Operation units and the Product Architecture, Consulting and Engineering teams.
• Support, execute and define the service strategy together with the stakeholders, taking into aspect future product and service developments.
• Participate and contribute in POCs, IT projects and initiatives related to the Mainframe with the aim to improve the services.
• Contribution to the landscape and technical strategy for the Mainframe service.
• Ensuring that key capabilities are integrated into internal processes – striving for Continuous Service Improvement.
• Supporting and maintaining z/OS, as well as tools in the Mainframe environment.
• Creating system programs and job processes for system environment optimization and automation.
• Actively engage and support move from reactive issue resolution handling, to a proactive service delivery.
• Implement, manage, maintain and upgrade various IBM program products and ISV software.
• Review of PMRs and Hold Actions, closely collaborate with Op units on implementing changes (e.g. PMRs) to the productive systems.
• Documentation (incl. security, automation) of the platform, ensure auditability and evidence of compliance to all standards and policies for the platform.
• Ensure proper monitoring of the platform by engineering monitoring solutions for the platform.

Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• At least five years of experience in z/OS systems programming and/or IT operations in a large Parallel Sysplex environment.
• In depth knowledge of z/OS system architecture.
• In depth knowledge of RACF, JCL, JES2, SMP/E and REXX programming experience, additionally some of the following areas shall be covered: Mainframe storage, XCF, GRS, and Sysplex processing, system monitoring tools and reporting software including RMF, SMF, and MainView, HCD, programming experience using COBOL or Assembler and performance tuning concepts including WLM and RMF, DB2 for z/OS, SQL.

Soft skills
• Strong English language skills both verbal and written are required.
• Excellent trouble shooting skills, including the ability to independently research problems and provide solutions.
• You like to work at the leading edge of technology and continuously look for ways to improve our service offerings.
• In addition, you have experience in managing small to medium-sized projects; strong people skills and can work in diverse, international project teams.
