Mainframe modernization is a service that provides customers a single place to define, modernize, and migrate their applications from legacy technology to AWS EC2, where they can take advantage of modern architectures, advanced technology and resilience. This service help to mitigate risk, avoid unnecessary delays and downtime caused by the modernization and migration of applications, infrastructure, or operations. As part of this service customer operates a team of highly-skilled engineers who are specialists in multiple legacy to cloud migration patterns that include (but not limited to) application replatforming, application refactoring and data migration.

Key job responsibilities
• Designs and delivers solutions to complex architectural problems at the team level.
• Defines and applies the standards of engineering, test, and operational excellence best practices for the mainframe modernization adoption team.
• Yields significant resilience, cost, performance, business or customer value for systems within the migrations services organization.
• Leads projects which streamline or eliminate excess processes for teams within the migration services organization.
• Identifies and mitigates risks at the product or service level.
• Able to write or design software which solves complex architectural problems. Code is resilient, efficient, and straightforward for others to adopt, maintain, and extend.
• Knows when to partner with subject-matter experts in other job families to ensure correct solutions are built.
• Leads design and operational reviews of architectures, systems, and processes within migration services, and helps guide teams when making trade-offs between opportunity, architecture, resources, and sustainability.
• Troubleshoots complex problems, extrapolating patterns and general case solutions from single incidents.
• Works closely with our engineering and product management teams to build resilient architecture patterns and scenarios.
• Identify opportunities to build compelling solutions and products to help customers better understand and manage their mainframe modernization and migration projects.
• Develop real life scenarios for use in building and deploying AWS Mainframe modernization platform
• Create use cases and expected test results from AWS Mainframe modernization services
• Ensure our service meets high bar of functionality aligned with customer needs
• Engage with other service teams to build cross product architecture, configuration and tests

Basic qualifications
• 3+ years of design, implementation, or consulting experience in applications or infrastructures
• 8+ years within specific technology domain areas (e.g. mainframe system developer, application development, and/or mainframe data migration)
• Bachelor's Degree
• Experience architecting application migration solutions
• Experience with developing test scripts and using testing tools
• Experience with delivery in a complex multi-region environment
• Deep hands-on experience with application modernization patterns and tools
Preferred qualifications
• Experience working with mission-critical applications and complex customer environments
• Advanced technical Degree
• AWS Cloud Certification(s)
