Senior Fullstack Engineer (TypeScript / Node.js / Vue.js)

Phillip Matambanadzo is a senior fullstack engineer with more than eight years of experience in the JavaScript and TypeScript ecosystem. He builds and modernises complex web applications, from Node.js APIs and SQL databases through cloud infrastructure on AWS and Azure to frontend architectures with Vue.js and Nuxt. He works closely with business stakeholders and product owners, helps shape requirements and uses prototypes to make product decisions concrete early. On international enterprise projects he took on technical leadership and led large-scale modernisations. In AI-assisted development he uses coding agents in a structured way: with TDD, automated quality checks and documented architecture decisions. He introduced this approach on an enterprise project and established it with the team as best practice.

Focus areas
  • Fullstack product development: TypeScript, Node.js, Vue.js and Nuxt
  • AI-assisted software development: structured use of coding agents (Claude Code), TDD, quality gates in CI/CD, team best practices
  • Backend and cloud: Node.js APIs, data modelling, SQL databases, AWS and Azure
  • Frontend architecture and modernisation: large Vue.js applications, migrations from Vue 2 to Vue 3 and from Webpack to Vite
  • Real-time applications and data visualisation: WebSocket, industrial IoT
  • Testing, monitoring and reliability: Vitest, Cypress, Datadog, SRE practices
  • Technical design and leadership: requirements work with business stakeholders, team coordination, code reviews
Selected results
  • Bilfinger Global IT: central endpoint response time from 8.4 s to about 1 s; test suite as a mandatory gate in the PR pipeline for a product that previously had no tests
  • SMG (Homegate.ch / ImmoScout24.ch): Vue 2 to Vue 3 and Vite migration in three months, live for both brands without a rollback; dev server start from about 35 s to under one second
  • Mercedes-Benz.io: moved the shop frontend to Vue 3, Pinia, Vite and Vitest in live operation
  • Kakadu Labs / iNDTact: took a Nuxt application from prototype to product, in use on an automotive production line
Industry experience
Automotive (e-commerce, manufacturing / industrial IoT, aftermarket / spare parts) · Industrial services / engineering · Real estate platforms / online marketplaces · Digital signage / advertising · Printing

Continued development of a live resource planning application across the whole stack, in a Scrum team of five developers and three product owners. I owned the architecture decisions, the testing strategy and AI-assisted development with Claude Code.
  • Clarified requirements with business stakeholders, wrote 12 PRDs and built HTML prototypes as the decision basis for the product owners
  • Reworked the data model with 15 SQL migrations and introduced a shared-types package as the contract between frontend and backend
  • Built REST endpoints with Node.js, Prisma and MSSQL, and the scheduler with Bryntum and AG Grid
  • Introduced AI-assisted development with Claude Code: TDD as the default, a review skill and a Docker sandbox for agent runs
  • Migrated the build from Webpack to Vite and introduced Pinia Colada
Results:
  • Central endpoint from 8.4 s to about 1 s
  • From no tests to a mandatory test gate in the PR pipeline, with 77 % of acceptance criteria covered by tests
  • 42 architecture decisions documented as ADRs
  • After I presented the AI review approach, the team introduced an automated PR review
Technologies & Methods:
TypeScript, Node.js, Vue.js, Prisma ORM, Microsoft SQL Server, Vite, Vitest, Pinia, Tailwind CSS, AG Grid, Bryntum, Playwright, Azure DevOps, Docker, TDD, Claude Code, JIRA, Scrum

SENIOR FULLSTACK ENGINEER

Kakadu Labs GmbH

Automobil und Fahrzeugbau

Senior Fullstack Engineer | October 2024 – June 2025
SmartClick Training Suite for iNDTact GmbH: sensor data from Bluetooth devices on an automotive production line is recorded and labelled, neural networks are trained on it and deployed back to the devices. I was the main author of the Nuxt application, from the tablet HMI to the backend-for-frontend; part-time alongside SMG until December 2024, then full-time.
  • Turned vague requirements into concrete ones with questions and prototypes
  • Built the tablet HMI for recording, tagging and labelling sensor measurements
  • Built the device management for gateways and SmartClicks, and a live view with real-time WebSocket charts (ECharts)
  • Built the BFF with Nuxt server routes on PostgreSQL and Drizzle ORM, validated with Zod
  • Led the frontend work: estimation, task split with a backend colleague, reviews and mentoring in Vue and Nuxt
Results:
  • In use on an automotive production line, covering the full cycle from data capture to training to live evaluation
  • Took the Nuxt application from prototype to shipped product
Technologies & Methods:
Nuxt.js, TypeScript, Vue.js, Node.js, Tailwind CSS, Docker, GitHub, PostgreSQL, Drizzle ORM, WebSocket, ECharts, Zod, DaisyUI, ESLint, Software-Infrastruktur, Internet Software

SMG Swiss Marketplace Group

Senior Software Entwickler | November 2023 – November 2024
Homegate.ch and ImmoScout24.ch, Switzerland's two largest real estate portals, share a listing funnel where private sellers and agencies create and pay for listings, the group's highest-revenue line. Brought in for the Vue 3 migration, I first worked on the funnel's Lambda backend and Vue frontend, then planned and carried out the migration largely on my own.
  • Planned and led the Vue 2 → Vue 3 migration of the multi-brand frontend (155 components, 726 files) in three months while the team kept shipping
  • Pushed for Vite and Vitest instead of retrofitting the Webpack toolchain, so the app was migrated only once
  • Migrated the backend Lambdas, including SQS and SNS listeners, from Serverless to AWS CDK with two colleagues
  • Set up Datadog metrics, alerts, SLOs and dashboards
  • Presented the results and a phase-2 roadmap to all engineering teams and stakeholders
Results:
  • Dev server start from about 35 s to under one second, production build halved, unit tests about 30 % faster
  • Live for both brands after one week of team-wide staging tests, with no rollback
Technologies & Methods:
Node.js, TypeScript, Vue.js, Amazon Web Services (AWS), GitHub, Vite, Full-Stack-Entwicklung, Webpack, Vitest, JIRA, Scrum, Cypress, Auth0, Datadog, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)

Senior Frontend-Entwickler | December 2021 – October 2023
The Mercedes-Benz web shop where Mercedes me users buy and renew digital vehicle services: a Vue monorepo on two Kubernetes clusters for Europe and overseas, in an international frontend team of about 12 developers.
  • Led the migration of the Orders, Products and Subscriptions domains from Vuex to Pinia and TypeScript models and services, with model factories as an anti-corruption layer
  • Planned and coordinated the Vue 2 → Vue 3 migration and the switch from Jest to Vitest
  • Built checkout and payment features: fast-lane checkout, SEPA mandate changes, leasing variants, B2B/B2C switch
  • Configured Helm chart options, deployed via Flux CD GitOps to both clusters and managed releases 8.2 to 8.4
Results:
  • Moved the shop frontend in live operation from Vue 2.6, Vuex and Vue CLI to Vue 3.3, Pinia, Vite and Vitest
  • Rebuilt three core domains on TypeScript models with an anti-corruption layer, documented as the team pattern
