Randstad Professionals are looking for an experienced Lab technician for our client in Basel.

The Biosample Operations Lab Technician (BOLT) is responsible for performing activities and processes related to the tracking, inventory, storage, processing, and transport of biological samples.

This role supports the Biosample Operations Lab Supervisor to ensure that lab activities fulfil customer needs and is responsible for achieving operational excellence in quality, service level, cost and compliance

Tasks:

  • With direct contact of Project support, participates in all sample handling activities, as assigned by the Biosample Operations Lab Supervisor or Lab Head.
  • Works in accordance with all applicable Controlled Documents (eg SOPs and Working Instructions, Working Documents), as appropriate, to complete sample handling activities.
  • Escalates issues to local supervisor or Sr. BOLT as appropriate, to obtain guidance and direction.
  • Under the guidance of the Biosample Operations Lab Supervisor and/or Senior Biosample Operations Lab Technician, ensures that inbound shipments are coordinated and samples are received, accessioned, tracked, stored, processed and/or shipped within agreed timelines.
  • Receive study samples via the receiving dept. and/or couriers into BRM Operations, including unpacking and checking of received samples.
  • Performs inventory of shipments, logs samples into sample management databases and manages sample discrepancies as necessary, with support from BRM Project Support.
  • Ensures that samples are managed and stored according to protocol requirements and BRM Operations best practices.
  • Sets-up and prepares shipping requests and documents, and packs samples for dispatch according to the applicable transport regulations.
  • Organizes and tracks sample shipments to internal and external analytical laboratories, arranging for transport material and boxes/dry ice, liaising with Couriers or local shipping department, as appropriate.
  • Prepare samples for assay based on study needs and update the relevant tracking system as appropriate.
  • Physically deliver samples to the appropriate internal assay group, as necessary.
  • Archive residual samples returned from the assay groups, if appropriate, for future additional research.
  • Responsible for sample destruction in accordance with applicable guidelines on request.
  • Performs manual and/or automated processes for serum/plasma/urine aliquoting, RNA aliquoting DNA extraction/preparation from various clinical samples on a routine basis according to timelines set by the BOLS or Lab Head.
  • Destruction of human specimens on request
  • Monitoring of freezers (temperature monitoring, issue logs, maintenance, monitoring freezer space & organization)
  • Administrative support to the functioning of the lab, as appropriate (use of ordering system, manage consumables, maintain inventory lists etc.

Compliance and Administration:

  • Completes files and archives all relevant study documentation according to the applicable controlled documents (eg SOPs, WIs and WKDs.)
  • Follows appropriate GCP guidelines
  • Ensures that the BRM sample management databases are maintained up to date and are in accordance with the completed study activities and sample status (eg RCR sample)
  • Liaises with Project Support, as needed, to provide status updates on study related activities to BRM internal customers
  • Checks and updates stocks regarding commonly used material for sample handling, sample shipping and sample processing, as appropriate.

General:

  • Follows User Manuals and Local controlled documents under supervision.
  • Supports the Lab Head and the Biosample Operations Lab Supervisor in implementing new processes, systems and SOPs/guidance.
  • Coordinates with other BRM Operations staff on study related issues.
  • Carries out all sample handling activities according to local health and safety rules and applicable SOPs and local guidance documents.
  • Maintains a neat working environment in laboratory work areas.

Education/Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in science or equivalent recognized qualification and/or experience in similar Sample Handling laboratory environment.
  • Direct and related experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech company is a plus

Experience, Skills, Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated experience working in a laboratory managing analysis clinical or non-clinical samples
  • Proficiency with PC computer systems, including email and calendar applications and MS Office.
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from superiors.
  • Requires attention to detail, and accuracy in data entry, while maintaining study timelines.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, paired with partnering and performance skills.
  • Team player with demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build effective working relationships within functional area.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to tight timelines
  • Experience working in multi-cultural teams is a plus
  • Customer orientated mind-set
  • Good level of initiative and the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision

Languages:

Strong written and oral communication skills, fluent in English (written and verbal)
