Junior Business Analyst required to work on a project for a major pharmaceutical in Switzerland
Main Tasks:
The IT department at our client is looking for a degree-educated Bioinformatician/Research Informatics Specialist with an excellent understanding of biology, research data, and lab workflows, as well as strong experience in software engineering and informatics, to join their multi-disciplinary Discovery Biology Informatics Group. Work location will be Basel, Switzerland.
The successful candidate will be responsible for collaborating with biologists and bioinformaticians to build end-to-end informatics solutions which meet the research workflow and data needs. You will work with the scientists to understand their lab processes, data flow, and research data in order to identify their informatics needs. The research areas in scope include the biology research in target discovery and biologics drug discovery.
As part of a global team you will implement small tools to address immediate needs and/or gather requirements to define and build enterprise informatics solutions. You will work together with a software engineering team to enhance and integrate the IT systems or build new systems to meet the research needs.
Key Responsibilities include:
Work with biologists and bioinformaticians in the respective biology research groups to understand their lab processes, data flow and data analysis needs
Define and integrate informatics solution(s) based on the existing IT application portfolio to meet the research needs
Identify gaps in the informatics solutions and build tools to close these gaps
Provide training and user documentation to small groups of scientists and collaborate with our Adoption & Awareness group to develop and deliver training for large user groups
Implement and deliver integrated solution(s) in collaboration with internal and/or external software development teams to provide end-to-end solutions for the research projects
Work as a member of a global team to ensure that the solutions meet the research requirements
Mains Skills:
BSc (or equivalent higher education) in Biology and/or Bioinformatics or in a similar discipline
Extensive experience working in a biomedical research environment, either in a pharmaceutical, academic or biotech organization, with excellent understanding of the target discovery (identification and validation) and biologics drug discovery process and data
Experience with supporting pharmacology, pathology, antibody screening and/or cellular screening research projects with informatics solutions
Excellent understanding of the respective research lab processes and their informatics needs
Proven capability interacting with biologists in a complex global research organization
Strong customer service attitude and solution orientation with ability to respond to changing needs and priorities quickly and efficiently
Excellent understanding and practical experience integrating enterprise components to deliver end-to-end solutions for specific research processes
Experience with rapid prototyping and agile software development methodologies
Knowledge of web architecture and technologies ( eg PHP)
Knowledge of and experience with SQL and relational databases
Experience implementing and consuming web services (SOAP/REST)
Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team
Fluency in English (oral/written)
Location: Basel - Switzerland
Duration: long term - extension through 2015 possible
Hourly rate: negotiable
