For a project at our banking client site in Zurich, we are looking for aVMWare System Administrator ESKi (2041)
The System Administrator is responsible for administering, maintaining, enhancing and implementing system changes from small components, to entire complex systems infrastructure, adhering to the established industry standards.
This also involves monitoring and controlling the performance and status of the infrastructure and the physical computer equipment on which systems and applications operate.
This role ensures that the operation of the infrastructure is in accordance with established procedures and practices. Whenever infrastructure availability, integrity or performances are compromised, the System Administrator will ensure that prompt and competent action is undertaken. This role will work with other technical teams in the support and enhancement of the core infrastructure to ensure better reliability and resilience, whilst at the same time making the environment more cost effective.
This may include making recommendations about enhancements to the existing infrastructure.
Requirements:
Administration and managing virtualization infrastructure (VMWARE) of the SWISS region for IB, WMSB and WM EMEA division.
Support and carrying out maintenance activities like patching, systems upgrades, risk remediation work
Close cooperation with partner platform teams (DB, Unix, Wintel, Storage and Backup)
Performing new installation and upgrades (release cycle) for virtual infrastructure
Performs configuration and administration using virtualization applications, and performs troubleshooting, and capacity planning for virtualization applications
Assisting with scripting (reporting and automation) of the virtualization environment
Participation in 7x24x365 Virtual Infrastructure ON Call Service as well as some contribution to the global support of the virtual infrastructure
Participation in project work and activities
Capacity and Performance analysis, managing and reporting
Documentation of operational documentation and technical procedures
Participation in shift work (early, late) and change activities outside business hours (after business and week end)
Extensive experience in VMware ESXi 4.* and ESXi 5.*
Know-how on Windows Server, Linux, Solaris, SQL and Storage (SAN/NAS)
Experience building servers on ESX platform
Architecture knowledge of virtual infrastructure
Self-consistent, assertive and approachable
Well knowledge in Service Offering of Virtual Infrastructure
Understanding of HP & DELL blades and chassis hardware; networking concept and of backup and recovery of VMs
Individual is expected to have strong technology skills, good communication and documentation skills, and strong troubleshooting skills
Knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of system administration
Good command of English and German, written and spoken
High motivation in automation
Good (excellent) scripting skills
Individuals with financial services industry experience are highly desirable
Knowledge of IT security
Ideally you worked in a global enterprise organisation already.
