Automation Lead

Reports to: WAG Site IT Lead

Job Purpose:

Provide Automation support and expertise to assist WAG site to manufacture quality pharmaceutical/biologics products to meet Priorities of: Compliance, Supply, Strategy and Profit Plan. Ensure that objectives are achieved at the lowest cost, consistent with company's requirements to ensure compliance, safety and reliable supply to our customers.

Principal Accountabilities:

- Responsible and accountable for supporting all Automation components that are directly and indirectly supporting of the process. On-floor support of manufacturing activities.

- Active participation in the Tier process and proactively resolving automation technical issues before they impact the business priorities.

- Support the smooth running of the site value stream and supply by delivering a world-class Automation service. This will be managed through the Automation Operations support model and Automation projects. The Automation lead will collaborate and supervise in the preparation of business cases, project plans and SDLC documents

- Ensure supply of high quality product through ensuring equipment and automation system availability; maximize performance through continuous process improvement initiatives and other relevant project support.

- Ensure compliance with, implementation and maintenance updates of local WAG specific Automation SOP's and all elements of System Development Lifecycle and technical documentation eg Change Management, Problem Incident Management.

- Ensure adherence with Company`s SDLC. Following business processes in the execution and support of Automation systems in WAG.

- Required to comply with Company`s Global Policies, Procedures and Guidelines, regulatory requirements and execute current Good manufacturing Practices (cGMP) in the performance of day to day activities and all applicable job functions.

- Participate effectively in writing/revising/rolling out accurate operational procedures, training documents and maintenance procedures for various automation systems; ensure all work is carried out in line with same.

- Responsible for supporting a culture of Continuous Improvement by deploying Company`s Six Sigma tools within WAG on Automation projects such as: problem solving, standardization, reducing cycle time, Lean principles within the process.

- Work collaboratively to drive a safe and compliant culture in WAG.

- May be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Duty Distinction:

- Leadership activities including coaching and day to day management. Ensure that the automation team receives appropriate resources and programmes to develop technical and other skills

- Provide support, guidance and technical excellence to ensure the success of the business. Model the Company`s Leadership behaviours and understand the MPS principles to drive a culture of continuous improvement building a High Performance Organization.

- Provide ongoing coaching and support to team members, to share technical knowledge and promote best practices onsite.

- Provide technical/SME stewardship over Automation, change-control, CSV, project management and deviation/investigation support.

- Provide SME knowledge and takeover of automation system support. Enable process excellence - eliminate work through Automation and simplification.

- Transfer business needs to technical solutions.

- Minimum Yellow Belt Certified

- Leadership activities including selection, development, coaching and day to day management. Ensure that the team receives appropriate resources and programmes to develop technical and other skills, to complete their jobs whilst stimulating personal growth and development in line with role. Develop and maintain training programmes.

- Liaise effectively with vendors to ensure standards achieved.

- Ensure highest Quality and Compliance standards including ongoing compliance with regulatory Safety, GMP, SOX & computer validation/SDLC requirements. Provision of support to Automation & IT systems at the site. Alignment of Automation strategy with business needs to deliver continuous improvement. Implementation and support of business-aligned, compliant, and cost-effective Automation systems.

- Ensuring alignment of the IT organization, infrastructure & systems to the current and future needs of the business.

- Provide Automation expertise within a wide range of projects, such as the introduction of new equipment, improvement to current manufacturing processes etc. DL10/BMS/PLC/Scada etc.

- Prioritize investments based on business value, leveraging capabilities across the enterprise, sourcing solutions globally and ensuring alignment of business & Automation strategy. Minimize risk to the business through the use of technology.

- Provide support, guidance and technical excellence to ensure the success of the business. Model the Company`s Leadership behaviours and understand the MPS principles to drive a culture of continuous improvement building a High Performance Organization.

Skills & Knowledge:

Typical Minimum Education:

- Bachelors Degree or higher preferred; ideally in a Computer Science, Business Information Systems, Software Engineering or Automation/Process Control discipline

Typical Minimum Experience:

- Considerable experience in a comparable role; would typically have experience operating as a senior professional and adding considerable value to the business; ideally in a manufacturing, preferably GMP setting

- Extensive technical and operational expertise in one or more of the following disciplines:

- Computer Systems Validation

- Instrumentation/Automation & Control

- BMS/SCADA/DCS Systems

- Control System/Shopfloor Integration

- Financial Systems/Inventory Management Systems/SAP

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and job related computer applications required

- Understanding of mechanical/electrical/pneumatic processes

- Equipment and process validation

- Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology manufacturing processes

- Knowledge of regulatory/code requirements to Swiss, European and International Codes, Standards and Practices

- Report, standards, policy writing skills required

- Knowledge, and ideally application, of industry standard training documentation systems/methods

- Lean Six Sigma Methodology experience desired
