Scientific Software Developer (Imaging)

C++, OpenCV, MPI, OpenMP, CUDA/OpenCL, Python, R, Matlab, Spotfire

We are pleased to announce a unique opportunity to be part of the Scientific Computing team in NIBR's IT group and create tools for empowering scientists to accelerate drug discovery and improve the lives of patients. As an imaging developer your primary responsibility will be to help optimise image analysis methods and workflows involving large data volumes over a wide range of imaging modalities. In this role you will be working collaboratively with scientists as well as groups in the areas of high performance computing and software engineering. We ask that you demonstrate strong scientific and analytical skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively to provide high quality workflows and research results.

 Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with biologists and imaging scientists on ongoing projects and suggest relevant image analysis, statistics and visualisation solutions.
  • Evaluate and integrate image analysis and visualisation tools and components.
  • Develop and optimise workflows that leverage targeted and distributed high performance computing resources to deliver analysis for large data volumes.
  • Provide support and training on analysis workflows.
  • Integrate workflows with existing ESB or web services frameworks.
  • Implement optimised algorithms to perform image processing and data analysis, typically in a high performance computing environment.
  • Communicate analysis results and methods to the group, the NIBR community and the broader scientific community.

 Minimum Requirements:

  • MS/PhD in Computer Science/Engineering, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Mathematics or a related subject or relevant experience.
  • Three years of relevant work experience, preferably in a setting involving direct interaction with researchers/scientists
  • Experience with HPC, grid computing, etc.
  • Demonstrated understanding of image analysis and statistics
  • Experience with a number of relevant projects in image analysis, visualization, workflow development, etc.
  • Experience with algorithm development for brightfield, multi-channel, time series and volume imaging is a plus
  • Experience with open-source image analysis and workflow tools like ImageJ/Fiji, CellProfiler, Knime, VTK, etc as well as commercial tools like Acapella, Avizo, Amira would be a beneficial
  • Tools/Programming experience could include:

C++, OpenCV, MPI, OpenMP, CUDA/OpenCL, Python, R, Matlab, Spotfire
