Tasks
A large custom distributed in-memory cache database which provides fast access to data from a legacy system. The cached items are static data used by various applications which support business processes of Foreign Exchange workflow. The role will demand analysis, detailed design, implementation and test aspects to the development lifecycle, together with third level production support within a Global Investment Bank.
Requirements
• The successful candidate will have strong Java and C++ skills, with at least 5 years solid experience in high performance, high throughput server development, in both Solaris and Linux environments.
• The successful candidate will be self-motivating and work well within a small strong team of software engineers.
• A thorough mindset and be used to delivering high quality software.
Technical skills
• C++ strengths:
o Static type vs dynamic type of an object
o Static polymorphism vs dynamic polymorphism
o Trait classes
o Overriding, overloading and hiding symbols
o Knowledge of basic tools to inspect binaries: nm, c++filt, ldd, truss
o Proc tools: pmap, pstack, pfiles, etc.
o C++ and multi-threading (POSIX)
o dbx: setting breakpoints, conditional breakpoints, stepping into code, callstack, switching threads, Examining memory, etc.
o STL, Boost, possibly RogueWave
o RAII, exception safety
o Purify on Solaris and valgrind on Linux
• Java Technologies: J2SE, multithreading (including java.util.concurrent), Collections, JMS, XML, HTTP, JUnit, EasyMock, Design Patterns, UML
• Responsibilities: design, code writing/code review and production support
Soft skills
• English, written and spoken
• Close communication with the customer
