Apps IT have been engaged by a major international client seeking a business analyst to work on their Knowledge Gateway Project.
Role Description:
We are looking for a senior business analyst to work closely with the various stakeholders of our clients Knowledge Gateway project. The consultant will provide the following types of services:
- Requirement gathering and functional design: Lead/participate in brainstorming exercises and workshops, define process mapping, conduct content analysis, discuss, engage and interview stakeholders. Document requirements and functional designs, data flows and process flows.
- Gap analysis: Understanding the organization goals and objectives while considering the possible solutions and/or processes enhancements and identifying areas of inefficiency. Define the short and long terms scopes of the recommended solutions.
- System and data mapping: Analyze existing source applications, map data and information between systems and the gateway. Ensure consistency and mapping of information and the relationship of the data to the data warehouse.
- Project Management Activities: Support the project manager in maintaining project plans, risk logs, status reports and applicable project documents.
- Implement Solution: Engage with technical staff to leverage selected technology to develop the solution. Provide support to the technical team implementing the solution including briefings, documentation, etc.
- Test: Develop system test scripts and scenarios, test delivered solutions and engage with the user community and stakeholders to ensure applicable user acceptance testing is completed. Maintain issue logs as needed.
Project Status:
- A prototype of the Knowledge Gateway as it would be presented on the public website has been developed. Specific web page templates and wire frames have been included.
- Gateway high level requirements have been drafted and circulated within the client.
- Mapping of data sources from existing databases is underway.
- A proof of concept to gain greater insight into technology options for the Knowledge Gateway has been completed.
General Information about the Role:
- Onsite work in Geneva, Switzerland
- 8 hours/day, 5 days a week
- Project runs from May 1 - December 15th. An initial contract of 1 month will be issued and will be extended for the remainder of the project duration pending acceptable performance.
Experience and Technology Knowledge:
- The consultant should have at least 15+ years of proven experience as a business analyst in the analysis, development and implementation of enterprise applications and knowledge/information systems.
- The consultant should have experience in business process analysis and design which may include techniques like: SWOT analysis, CATWOE, Five Whys, MoSCoW, VPEC-t, SCRS, etc.
- Technology Experience: varied information technology knowledge and experience, including data analysis software, project management programs, relational databases, document/content management solutions, data warehousing, knowledge and collaboration solutions and website/Intranet technologies is preferable.
- Good analytical skills and ability to engage stakeholders and excellent ability to communicate verbally and in writing
- Prince2, PMI or other project management experience/certification are desirable
- Intimate knowledge of the SDLC and solution development approaches such as waterfall, agile, etc.
High-level Tasks and Deliverables:
The consultant is expected to work on the following deliverables and specific activities within the Information and knowledge management gateway:
Knowledge Gateway Data Capture Application:
Task 1. Engage stakeholders to analyze and document the knowledge gateway business requirements of the different data components specifically. Develop end-to-end process flows and document approval steps related to the data gathering process to populate the associated information areas. Document and highlight inefficient processes, gaps or duplication to management.
Deliverable: Business requirement documentation, business process flows, gap analysis document.
Task 2. Develop functional designs to translate the requirements into the intended solution. Documentation can include screen mock ups, use cases, workflow/approval needs. Notifications/alerts, etc. Engage technical staff to discuss and update the functional designs as needed to ensure satisfactory understanding in the development of technical designs and development. Develop system test scripts/scenarios and perform system testing as needed on the delivered solution.
Deliverable: Functional requirement documents, testing documents
Data/Content Analysis:
Task 3. Analyze existing source applications, map data and information between systems and the gateway. Define rules to ensure consistency and coherence of the mapped information in the gateway. Define the data flow across the different systems and to the gateway. Document data inconsistencies between sources and resolve differences through escalation and organizational engagement. Develop mapping tables as needed between applications.
Deliverable: Data source mapping documents, mapping tables between sources and the gateway, test scripts/scenarios

Task 4. Translate the existing prototype into detailed functional designs as needed. Ensure technical designs illustrate intended functionality. Document and map information sources to the prototype as needed. Develop test scripts/scenarios as needed to ensure solution stability and delivery of business requirements.
