Senior Associate/Scientist for Oligonucleotide R&D in Preclinical - organic synthesis laboratory, technical innovation, technical innovation, organic synthesisRole:
For our client in the Pharma industry based in Rotkreuz we are looking for a Senior Associate/Scientist for Oligonucleotide R&D in Preclinical. As a senior associate/scientist in oligonucleotide synthesis, you will actively contribute to design and develop new processes to enable the timely delivery of our growing oligonucleotide portfolio.
You will be an integral part of a fully integrated team working towards the synthesis, purification and isolation of the drug substance for a broad range of diverse oligonucleotide molecules.
In this exciting role you will gain hands-on experience with all aspects of oligonucleotide chemistry and with the use of the highly specialized technical equipment required on a daily basis
on the job, acquiring a set of unique and highly sought-after skills in a growing area in the pharmaceutical industry.
We need someone able to design and execute the experiments, with experience in automated equipment. The ideal candidate has both a strong technical (machinery) and a chemical knowledge
Areas of responsibility:
* Develop, optimize and execute processes for the synthesis of chemically modified
oligonucleotides on a multi-gram scale
* Establish and perform robust conjugation processes of oligonucleotides to different small
molecules
* Generate know-how and perform oligonucleotide downstream processing steps such as
preparative chromatography, desalting and isolation
* Work closely together with chemists from several departments to gather technical knowledge
and facilitate a smooth project transfer throughout different development stages (from early
discovery to late stage technical development)
* Be responsible for the reproducible, precise, execution of laboratory work and its documentation
* Help with the maintenance of the laboratory equipment and its software
Professional and technical requirements:
* B.Sc. / M.Sc. in organic synthesis. Alternatively, you hold an apprenticeship as laboratory
technician with an equivalent working experience in an organic synthesis laboratory
* Min 2 years of similar experience for B.Sc & M.Sc / Min 4 years' experience for apprentices
* Strong drive for technical innovation and for performing hands-on laboratory work in an organic
synthesis laboratory focused on solid phase technologies
* Interested and inclined to operate and program highly specialized equipment
* Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing in English
Nice to Haves:
* Experience in the field of solid phase organic synthesis and oligonucleotide chemistry, is a plus
* Interest and experience in programming is a plus
* Practical experience with the equipment and software used in oligonucleotide synthesis (e.g. Cytiva OP100, Unicorn programs, Äkta Crossflow) is an advantage
* Knowledge of German is advantageous but not mandatory
Personal requirements:
* Interest in working with automated solid phase synthesis systems and programming
* Exact, diligent and clean style of working and enjoy being in the lab as part of a team
* Manual dexterity required to work with sophisticated automation equipment
* Experience working on the multi-gram synthesis of small molecule is advantageous
