Modeling & Simulation Scientist (m/f/d)

Main tasks:
  • Develop and maintain timely, scientifically sound, creative and business-oriented modeling and simulation strategy for pre-clinical projects or clinical projects
  • Develop multi-scale models for PK, efficacy and toxicology by integrating experimental data (in vitro, in vivo and omics) and concepts ranging from the level of molecules to the level of cells, tissues and organisms
  • Interact on a scientific level with pharmacology scientists at senior levels (clinical pharmacologist) or project leaders with regards to all aspects of the integration of M&S to ensure efficient and appropriate M&S strategy and activities for the project
  • Develop and execute appropriate physiology-based pharmacokinetic or (translational or population) pharmacokinetic and (translational or population) pharmacodynamic models for the project and applies, if available for the project, empirical and/or mecha-nism-based (drug disease) models
  • Conduct simulations to illustrate the impact of development decisions such as compound selection or dosage regimen selection and other preclinical study/clinical trial design features or entry into human studies as well as reporting of the respective outcome for internal decision making or new drug application documents or peer reviewed journals
  • Prepare information and strategy for presentation at research and early development and/or late stage development project team meetings in order to ensure consistency of M&S activities/objectives with overall project goals and with current standards
  • Ensure that the M&S results are clearly communicated and that M&S presentations are tailored to the audience (e.g. project team and/or senior management)
  • Lead consultants and outside collaborators that provide M&S expertise for individual tasks or entire projects


Main qualifications
  • A PhD-/MD-/DVM-/PharmD-level in natural sciences, mathematics, physical sciences or engineering plus postdoctoral experience (or an equivalent relevant experience) or plus relevant professional/industry experience in the planning and conduct of M&S projects for pre-clinical or clinical study data (preferably in a pharmaceutical industry setting)
  • Experience in planning and conduct of M&S projects for pre-clinical and clinical study data
  • Experience in M&S software and programming language such as NONMEM or Monolix, R, Python or SAS, WinNonlin/Phoenix, Trial Simulator (TS) or Berkeley Madonna, GastroPlus, Matlab
  • Good knowledge of the drug discovery and development process and knowledge of GCP and regulatory guidelines if applicable
  • Some knowledge of (clinical) pharmacology, drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics and meaningful biological and medical concepts
  • Ability to demonstrate and apply independent thought and creativity in programs or projects
  • Lead author on publications
  • Effective scientific communicator both inside and outside company
  • Thorough knowledge of own scientific field and ability to apply this knowledge to advance projects or programs
