Linux/Unix Engineer

We are currently looking for a Senior Linux/UNIX Systems Engineer in the Zurich office. You will be delivering projects and solutions to our external customers. In this role you will also be responsible for providing technical/production support for critical infrastructure and business services running on Linux- and UNIX-based systems. You will perform complex activities associated with Operating Systems Support. Additionally, the Senior Linus/Unix Systems Engineer will cooperate and coordinate with other parties as required, both with the customer and with vendors.

  • Support design, planning, implementation and integration of Linux- and UNIX-based projects and solutions in cooperation with customer, vendor, application support, Storage, DBA and Windows teams etc.
  • Support of life cycle projects
  • Monitor systems and services, resource utilization, for problem detection/alarming, trend analysis, capacity planning
  • Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the IT infrastructure
  • Provide level 2/3 support and troubleshooting in case of issues
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
  • Root cause analysis
  • Be available for 7x24 on-call support
  • Establish standards for UNIX/Linux OS installation and configuration
  • Support and maintain IT infrastructure applications
  • Execute pro-active maintenance
  • Ensure and improve availability to meet agreed SLAs
  • Execute Disaster Recovery (DR) tests in cooperation with application support teams
  • Provide consulting and guidance to Operations teams
  • Create, revise and update technical documentation (standards, procedures, processes)
Your Profile
  • University degree in a computer-based discipline (Computer Science, Information Systems) or equivalent experience
  • 5 years related infrastructure experience, at least 7 years working in an enterprise environment
  • Strong Linux/Unix System Administration skills with understanding of network administration
  • Solid understanding of network protocols and tools, routing, Firewalls, load balancers
  • Strong programming/Scripting skills - Shell, Python, Perl
  • Linux know-how: Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Kickstart, Red Hat Satellite, Ansible, LVM - certification a plus
  • UNIX know-how: HPUX, Solaris
  • Services: RADIUS, LDAP, Active Directory, NIS, Samba, NFS, DNS,
  • Clustering: Red Hat Cluster, Veritas VCS, HP ServiceGuard
  • Monitoring tools: Nagios, Cacti
  • Configuration management and automation Tools: Ansible, Cfengine
  • Performance monitoring and tuning
  • Version control systems: Subversion, git, ect.
  • VMware and Windows knowledge
  • Familiarity with ITIL-based processes beneficial
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly analytical and structured
  • Ability to think across boundaries
  • Team player
Technical:

Experience in the following technical areas is required:
