Business Intelligence BI Developer/DWH Expert required, to work on a Project within a major Bank in Switzerland.
Overview:
The Platform Engineering team is a cross-functional team managing application development and data platforms of the Bank. The team is currently working on developing various data management platforms to enhance data and analytical capabilities at the Bank.
As a data engineer you will be responsible for the design, development, testing and support of the Bank's main Business Intelligence platform. This role includes designing how the data is stored, consumed, integrated, and managed by different data entities, users and systems. The data engineer will work together with the Business Intelligence team, business stakeholders, information designers and data consumers to determine, create, and populate optimal data architectures, structures, and systems which support transformation of operational data into the analytical framework for data-driven decision making. One of the key challenge for this role is to plan, design, and optimize the platforms for data throughput and query performance issues; this requires constantly updating expertise in areas such as data volume management, data transformation techniques, bandwidth management as well as design of overall data management architecture.
Responsibilities:
- Architect and develop data pipelines to connect various data sources, develop ETL processes and maintain it,
- Design and develop relational as well as multi-dimensional databases to meet business requirements,
- Design and develop operation data store (ODS), enterprise data warehouse (EDW) for Real Time as well periodic reporting,
- Develop and design streaming services for Real Time reporting and data movement,
- Monitor and tune performance of relational as well multidimensional database queries,
- Assist the BI team with occasional development of analytical dashboards,
- Develop automated tests and maintain continuous integration environment,
- Develop and update technical documentation
- Contribute to the definition of design and development best practices and standards,
- Work with agile team(s) to quickly prototype and iterate on ideas,
- Develop peer, cross-functional and business relationships to maximize best practice sharing and team effectiveness,
- Work collaboratively with project team members and operational staff to provide operational support for the data platforms.
Key Skills:
- Excellent Datamodelling skills and experience of working with heterogeneous datasets
- Experience of Data Vault modelling and design.
- Advanced T-SQL programming skills (stored procedures, functions, etc.), as well as developing ETL jobs using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
- In-depth understanding of database management systems, relational, online analytical processing (OLAP) and ETL (Extract, transform, load) framework,
- Solid understanding and hands-on experience of SQL Server
- Analysis Services (Multidimensional as well as Tabular), including MDX and DAX
- Knowledge/experience of DevOps practices, automated CI and release management as well as source control management using TFS and Git,
- Advanced skills in data engineering and coding with ability to collect, organize, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy,
- Knowledge of performance tuning and optimization for SQL Server and SSAS databases
- Experience with BI tools is preferred, Tableau, Power BI and/or SQL Server Reporting Services or equivalent,
- Technical expertise of data mining and partition techniques would be an advantage,
- Understanding of/experience with Agile development methodologies
- Knowledge of automation tools, Nbi, Biml or Red Gate equivalent,
- Good problem solving and testing skills is must,
- Understanding of data integration best practices, leading industry applications and features such as master data management, entity resolution, data quality assessment, metadata management, etc.
- Knowledge of Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Kafka would be an advantage
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills and ability to work under pressure/deliver on tight deadlines is a must,
- Customer-oriented with strong focus on service delivery, and ability to work under minimal supervision and to take initiatives and responsibility,
- Knowledge of financial markets would be an advantage
Experience & Education:
- 3-5 years of previous job experience of working closely in data analytics or business analysis or data engineering function
- Professional experience in Banking/Finance industry is an advantage
- 3+ years of work experience on Microsoft Business Intelligence stack
- Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Computer Sciences, Information Technology, or its equivalent with 3-5 years of professional experience
- An excellent command of written and verbal English.
Location: Basel - Switzerland
