Job Title: RELEASE TRAIN ENGINEER

EXPERIENCE
· 15-20 years of overall experience, with at least 5 years of experience in a similar function or role, so as RTE in a multi-team –
multi-application release train
· SPC4 certificate holder
· Excellent knowledge of Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, …), practices and principles
· Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment
· 5 years of experience in software development or software testing a strong plus

COMPETENCIES & SKILLS
· Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
· Strong conceptual and problem solving mindset
Willingness to learn new tools and improve workflows
· Very good English (spoken and written)
· Very good knowledge of JIRA
· Strong sense of prioritization
Nice to have
· Good French language competences considered a strong plus
· Knowledge in Air Traffic Management (ATM)
· Experience with Confluence
· German language competences considered a plus

EDUCATION
· Higher education in information technology (university degree) or equivalent

Purpose of the role
The Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a servant leader and coach for the Agile Release Train (ART). The RTE’s major responsibilities are to facilitate the ART events and processes and assist the teams in delivering value. RTEs communicate with stakeholders, escalate impediments, help manage risk, and drive relentless improvement.

Responsibilities
The RTE facilitates ART processes and execution, respectively. She/he escalates impediments, manages risk, helps ensure value delivery, and helps drive relentless improvement. She/he will participate in the Lean-Agile transformation, coaching leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in the new processes and mindsets.

Desired outcomes
· Manage and optimize the flow of value through the ART using various tools, such as the Program and other information radiators
· Establish and communicate the annual calendars for Iterations and Program Increments (PIs)
· Facilitate PI Planning readiness by fostering a Continuous Exploration process which drives the synthesis of a Vision, a Roadmap, and Backlogs, and through Pre- and Post-PI Planning meetings
· Facilitate the PI planning event
· Summarize Team PI Objectives into Program PI Objectives (the RTE) and publish them for
visibility and transparency
· Assist tracking the execution of features and capabilities.
· Support to the management of PI results, prepare and implement Features burn-up as well
as other metrics as needed for progress visualization.
· Keep track of problems of non-resolution of features and identify tendencies and common
causes
· Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets
· Help manage risks and dependencies
· Escalate and track impediments
· Provide input on resourcing to address critical bottlenecks
· Encourage collaboration between teams and System and Solution Architects/Engineering
· Work with Product and Solution Management, Product Owners, and other stakeholders to
help ensure strategy and execution alignment
· Facilitate and organize System Demos
· Drive relentless improvement via Inspect and Adapt workshops; assess the agility level of
the ART and help to improve
· Foster Communities of Practice and the use of engineering and Built-In Quality practices
· Support managing the Improvements backlog and lead the implementation of key
improvements
· Organize and lead Scrum of Scrums and ART ceremonies, provide guidance and
leadership on the topics to be addressed.
· Foster the use of the Program Backlog Governance Webpage as well as key related
Confluence webpages and contribute to its maintenance and improvement.
· Communicate, coach and train Program participants on the application of program's
processes and tools.
· Contribute to Program's progress reporting
