Experienced System/Database Administrator required to join an exciting project. Working for a world leader.
This role will involve both remote and onsite working in Geneva.
Rates Dependent on experience:
5-10 years experience:
360 CHF (Nearshore) - 425 CHF (Onsite)
10 + years experience:
575 CHF (Nearshore) - 700 CHF (Onsite)
Objective:
The role is located in the System Management and Integration Section, IT Technical Division as part of the Information and Communication Technology Department. The primary responsibility of the Section is to provide expert and cost-effective ICT platform services that fulfil the essential business and technical requirements for hosting of the organisations data.
The role of database specialist requires an experienced and enthusiastic IT professional to support ongoing operations and migrations in a diverse database environment. The ideal candidate will have a proven background in supporting both operational and project based work, ideally having several years' experience supporting RDBMS platforms such as Oracle, Postgres, MySQL and MariaDB as well as demonstrable experience in migrating databases to Cloud platforms, such as AWS.
An ability to work with application owners and developers to optimize SQL and dependent applications is highly desirable, whilst supporting devOps alongside continuous improvement and monitoring tools, such as Cloudwatch.
Essential skills:
- Proven experience in administration of Oracle RDBMS for both on premises and Cloud hosted services, ideally AWS, Azure.
- Proven experience with opensource database administration, support and configuration, one or more of MySQL, MariaDB or Postgres.
- Solid experience with on-premises to cloud migrations (such as to Aurora Postgres, Aurora MySQL RDS + EC2) with knowledge of migration tools such as SCT, DMS.
- AWS Certified
- Proven knowledge working with enterprise backup tools such as DDBoost, Xtrabackup, RMAN and snapshot database.
- Experience in automation of data related changes with tools such as Liquibase or Bamboo
- Committed to quality standards, good experience of change management process.
- Excellent communication skills, spoken and written English.
Desirable:
- Experience in query optimization and index tuning, parameterization, ability to effectively diagnose performance bottlenecks, slow running queries and contention, recommending datamodel changes.
- Experience with monitoring systems (desirable), such as Cloudwatch, Cloudtrail, Prometheus, Percona or any similar monitoring and alerting tools.
