For a global bank client based here in Zurich we are searching for a DB2 z/OS Engineer to join a project for one year +.
Overview of business area or project:
The Mainframe is a the very heart of the Swiss Banking IT Platform: It processes more than 50 million transactions per day and needs to satisfy highest requirements towards performance and availability. The various teams in charge of this platform are organized in a Mainframe competence center led by the head of Mainframe Services Switzerland.
Within this competence center the sector Mainframe Transaction Processing & Databases is in charge of all Mainframe transaction systems (IMS, CICS) and databases (IMS DB, Db2).
This vacancy is located in the Db2 team which is responsible for all aspects of Db2 in this very large and highly complex environment. We take care of multiple, geographically dispersed parallel Sysplexes hosting more than 10 Db2 data sharing groups. These environments are integrated with multiple Db2 Analytics Accelerators. The infrastructure serves hundreds of databases with hundreds of thousands of objects and the team's responsibilities covers Db2 end-to-end, from System Engineering to Database Administration, from Db2 and IDAA installation and deployment to application consulting and performance tuning.
Key Responsibilities:
This role focuses primarily on the area of Database Administration and improvements in this space:
- Consulting: Support applications in the optimal use of Db2 and its features.
- Tuning: Identify programs with potential for optimizations (both proactive and reactive), evaluate options, elaborate them with the application owner, develop and agree on implementation plans.
- Support and On-Call duty: Support in case of problems and fault situations that might occur; participate in the team's on-call duty rota.
- Continuous improvements: Take on special projects and activities in order to continuously improve the environment.
Essentials Skills and Qualifications:
1. Contractor needs to have a strong understanding and several years of experience with Db2 for z/OS - ideally from both a Database Administration as well as System Engineering perspective.
2. This is a senior level position: Contractor is expected to demonstrate flexibility, high energy and drive in achieving the desired results.
3. Contractor is expected to apply a systematic problem solving approach and project management techniques for larger activities.
