Cfengine configuration expert
- 3. Cfengine 3.x installations and policy Servers, one to support each of RHEL 5, 6, 7
- (2. Cfengine 2 installs, one for HPUX, the other one only used for monitoring)
- implement/control eg basic hardening, user/group account creation, software installation, file system access privileges, etc.
- lack of structure in Cfengine promises; redundancies, partially conflicting promises - confusion, inability to upgrade to current release (using 3.3, 3.5, 3.7, ie whatever was current , when the environment was created; last version available now is 3.10)
- fix immediate problems quickly (garbage output, conflicting promises, inconsistencies)
- consolidate Cfengine 3.x instances into a single one
- organize and structure; reduce redundancies
- plan/build maintainable structure in Cfengine to be able to (a) support > 1000 Servers, (b) support all required OS types (Red Hat Linux, Solaris, HPUX), (c) keep up with new Cfengine releases, (d) add new features (collect inventory and config data, support new OS types, )
- follow Cfengine (and software engineering) best practises (content driven promises; modularization, )
