For one of our clients in the insurance industry we are currently looking for a Senior Python Engineer
- Start date: ASAP
- Duration: 12 Months (possibilities for extension)
- Location: Zurich
About the project
The aim is to build reliable and accurate software to process our heavily structured financial data. Given our data volumes and non-functional requirements, this is done using Apache Spark. The data we process is business critical and used to support internal and external financial reporting. Given the importance of our work we apply "proper" software engineering principles. Accordingly, the role is suited to someone who has very good experience of, and has made outstanding contributions to, production grade software in Python. We also expect the person to be able to coach less experienced engineers and be a beacon for clean code
Key Responsibilities
- Work in a scrum team and collaborate effectively with other engineers, the scrum master and product owner
- Write clean code in Python (utilizing Apache Spark) that solves difficult problems elegantly and appropriately
- Review other team member's code and coach other team members
- Have opportunities to work on design topics and work on, or influence, other components that interact with our data processing pipelines eg Azure Data Factory, SQL Server, Power BI
Essentials Skills
- A strong core Python software engineering experience
- A good understanding and significant experience with projects using relational data models and SQL
- A conviction to use automated tests because you see and create value from them; not because you're asked to write them
- Experience with Apache Spark and Delta Lake tables
- Successfully mentored less experienced team members
- Previously improved the engineering practice of teams you have worked in
- Good analytical skills and the ability to understand complexity and break it down into smaller, achievable steps
- Fluent in English and able to work effectively in person and remotely with other engineers
- A team player who is eager to make outstanding contributions to our product area and be a beacon for clean code
- An experienced senior where less experienced engineers can come to for coaching/advice
