For a longterm project at our client, an international insurance company based in Zurich we are looking for aJava Developer for Data Acquisition and Integration (2621)
to work within the Group IT department on the analysis and integration of various internal sources and external data. The role focuses on the development of new sophisticated integration algorithms, building on a state of the art Big Data solution. Daily activities include working closely with business representatives to understand business needs, translate these into effective designs and implementations.
This job is a so called contract-to-perm position. This means that you work as a contractor for the first six month and after this period there is a chance that you get a permanent employment at our client.
The position includes the following tasks:
Develop data integrations, customisations to the existing platform and entirely new services as part of your regular work, applying solid statistical knowledge in the process
Independently break down and solve complex problems with little direction
Monitor and maintain complex data pipelines to bring together disparate data, this will allow unprecedented questions to be answered
Data profiling and data quality
Error handling, restart and recovery processes
Ability to troubleshoot problems associated
Create technical support documentation
Ability to document current environment
Understand customers’ objectives, processes, and products in order to make educated recommendations
Prepare and execute unit test plans and document results
Prepare and execute system and integration test plans and document results
Quality checks of program codes, related objects and documentations
Respond to production support issues
Work with project management office, change management consultants, project team members and business as required
This position may require occasional travelling.
To fulfill these tasks we are looking for a candidate who is able to creatively work with the state-of-the-art charting and statistical analysis systems for multiple market instruments and who exhibits a drive and aptitude for engineering quality software, coupled with strategic thinking.
Furthermore you meet the following requirements:
BA/BSc (MA/MSc preferred) in mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering or related subject, or an exceptionally strong technical background
Experience in application development / testing or business/system analysis
Experience with a high level programming language (e.g. Java, C++, C#, Scala) or scripting languages (e.g. Ruby, Groovy, Python, Bash)
Experience working with databases, SQL based or Hadoop
Knowledge of Palantir Application Development
Linux/Unix Admin experience (Moderate)
Knowledge of relational database structure and DBMS
Ability to summarize and present complex facts into understandable and presentable pieces of information and to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical users
Good interpersonal skills as team member as well as towards internal customers
Structured change management methodology
Business fluent in German and English (Ability to take part in meetings and discussions and give information about own area of expertise)
Good understanding of corporate insurance business would be an advantage
