As a technical writer for Data Infrastructure & Analysis (DIA), you'll help educate internal developers about our state-of-the-art data processing and reporting tools for applications operating at petascale. The DIA platform offers a full spectrum of integrated products for data ingestion, processing, storage, and analysis.
You'll work with other technical writers, engineers, and product managers to determine what documentation will be most valuable for developers who adopt DIA tools. You'll work independently to create document plans, draft developer guides, construct code tutorials, and revise existing documentation to make it conform to current standards.
You might have a background as a developer and write documentation on the side, or you're a seasoned communicator with experience writing for a large-scale technical platform or database system. One thing for certain: you are passionate about helping developers build amazing things.
Responsibilities:
- Meet with product managers and software engineers to determine scope and create documentation plans
- Review existing (developer-written) documentation to evaluate its accuracy and relevance
- Write documentation guides for developers that cover how to integrate DIA components, how to monitor ongoing usage, and how to use developer tools
- Provide editorial reviews for other technical writers
- Create information architectures for sets of documents
Requirements:
- 4+ years of technical writing experience
- Ability to read and write code in object-oriented programming languages (such as Java and C++)
- Experience with large-scale platform or database systems; experience with "big data" a huge plus
- Experience organizing sets of documentation
- Experience working in a command-line environment for navigating and managing files
- Experience using version control system such as Perforce or GIT
- Experience writing documentation for software developers
