Briefing Lead urgently required for our Central Government, Westminster based client on a 6 month initial contract + extensions.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead on proactive and reactive briefing for the Change Directorate for meetings with Ministers, the National Audit Office, Major Project's Review Group (MPRG), Cabinet Office and other senior members and groups, both within Government and externally.
  • Produce concise, relevant and timely assessments and responses for Ministers and senior civil servants with respect to Reform
  • Overseeing delivery of engagement products such as briefing packs, scripts, slide packs, technical notes etc. Coordinating the timely delivery of the products
  • Develop subject matter expertise - use knowledge to understand, explain and communicate complex issues to non-specialists verbally and in writing
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with key stakeholders including senior managers, senior judges, Ministers private offices and wider colleagues
  • Bring together subject matter experts across the portfolio to ensure that the change directorate's work provides maximum value to customers
  • Assist with effective communication between over 60 individual projects and the business
  • Represent the views of key stakeholders in cross-government meetings as well as to external partners, institutions, agencies etc
  • Managing a wide range of complex information and provide knowledge on all issues relating to the team's work


Required Skills/ Experience:
  • Strategic Thinking:
    • Bringing together Government policy and establishing its impact;
    • Translating complex or unclear issues into deliverable policy solutions;
    • Proven ability to pick up complex policy areas rapidly and spot the key policy trade-offs;
    • Strong political antennae and understanding of the political and wider policy sensitivities of the brief.
  • The work will often require the ability to summarise a complex set of facts, and advice where there are choices to be made, clearly and succinctly for Ministers and senior civil servants.
  • Able draw on complex data, subject matter experts and other specialists from across the business to ensure that policies are well thought through and evidenced.
  • Proven capability in building and maintaining stakeholder relationships with a wide range of organisations (whether within or outside Government) and people, and using those relationships to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Able to work independently, take responsibility for areas of work and manage competing priorities, often in a pressured environment. A commitment to high standards, good relationship management and clear thinking.
  • Excellent oral and written communication is essential. Ability to engage confidently and effectively with senior officials and external interlocutors, and to explain complex issues in readily understandable terms.
